By: Erin Moore for Body1In yet another tragic turn of events, Washington Redskins defenseman Sean Taylor was shot by intruders to his Miami-area home early Tuesday morning. Squeezing a nurse’s hand after emergency surgery, his friends and family had hoped that he would awaken. Alas, he died a few hours later as a result of massive blood loss.
Police say the attack was premeditated, and may be linked to a break-in to his home eight days earlier. The intruders shot Taylor in the groin area and fled, without stealing anything. His girlfriend called 911 on her cell phone after discovering that the phone line had been cut. Although Taylor was a lauded star at the University of Miami and the NFL, he had his share of entanglements with the law – both relating to leaving training early and fights. Friends say he had been making an effort to avoid bad company, especially for his young daughter’s sake.
