The Heartland Blood Center of Geneva, Illinois is offering coupons for free pies from Bakers Square for those who give blood this holiday season. The goal is to have enough blood through Thanksgiving and Christmas, days when people don’t typically donate. Heartland’s director Jill Bernard says there is always a need and even one day of no giving has an impact on available supplies for patients.
Blood donations help patients with countless illnesses and are often needed to save lives. More than 4.5 million people in the United States and Canada need a blood transfusion each year. Every two seconds, someone needs blood. Consider giving blood – or doing another selfless act – as the year comes to a close.
