    Cyclone Hits Bangladesh Hard

    November 16, 2007

    By: Erin Moore

Tropical storm Sidr wreaked havoc on the southern coastal region of Bangladesh late Thursday. At least 500 are dead and thousands more are homeless after one of the worst cyclones in the country’s history. The storm surge destroyed most of the coastal area, with waters reaching four feet high in some places. More than 600,000 people were forced to evacuate.

It was unclear how quickly electricity could be restored, but officials said it may be weeks. The cyclone had slowed and turned into a light tropical storm that was heading northeast Friday.
