By: Erin Moore for Body1One person is dead and at least 17 are injured as more than a dozen wildfires engulf Southern California today, officials say. Upwards of 250,000 people, mostly from San Diego county, have been evacuated from their homes. Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has declared a state of emergency for San Diego and several surrounding areas, including Riverside, Santa Barbara, and Orange. San Diego Fire Captain Lisa Blake said: "A lot of people are going to lose their homes today."
The fires began this past weekend, likely due to drought, and warm temperatures and strong winds made matters worse. Nearly 150,000 acres of land have burned. Rescue workers and police have their hands full.
