    ‘Good’ Bacteria

    October 15, 2007

    By: Erin Moore for Body1

The popularity of probiotic supplements, “good” bacteria thought to ease digestion and bolster the immune system, has been fueled by ‘YoBaby’ and similar lines of products. Probiotics for babies has been introduced as a way to support growth and development in young children. According to the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), it remains unclear whether probiotics make a worthwhile contribution to child and lifelong development, but many people are convinced of their power.

Microorganisms that help re-establish healthy equilibrium in the stomach, probiotics are often prescribed following a course of antibiotics or gut-related illness. They can counteract the detrimental effects of stress, alcohol, medications, disease, or exposures in the intestinal environment.
