    Skincare For Fall

    October 10, 2007

    By: Erin Moore for Body1

Skin is the largest organ; it protects you and prevents infections and germs from entering the body. Caring for it is therefore an important part of overall good health. When skin is dehydrated – as is often the case in the fall and winter – the water content of the very top layer of skin is reduced, causing it to shrink. This shrinkage creates many of the familiar symptoms of dry skin, including itching, scaling, loss of elasticity and tightness.

Actress Lucy Liu likes Eucerin’s Aquaphor: “I use it for everything. It's not too glossy, so I wear it when I do movies because it looks really natural. If you’re [out in the cold] and take a little bit of Aquaphor and dab it on your face, it keeps your skin looking fresh. I dubbed it Aqua for Everything.”

Here are some healthy skin tips:

  • Wash your face with a gentle cleanser twice per day. Consider a non-soap wash that is moisturizing or oil-fighting, depending on your skin type.
  • Moisturize right after bathing – wet skin absorbs moisture better.
  • Wear sunscreen when you are outside – even during winter – and visit the dermatologist once per year.
  • Call your doctor if you notice a persistent rash, irritation, or change in your skin.

Baby’s skin is especially sensitive, and should be treated with extra care.
