By: Erin Moore for Body1A University of Memphis football player was shot and killed late Sunday in what police are calling a targeted attack, not a random act of violence. Taylor Bradford, 21, was shot near a university housing complex a little before 10 p.m. local time. Memphis police were called about reported gunfire in and around the area, and arrived to find Bradford wounded. He was brought to a local hospital, where medics were unable to revive him.
School administrators called off classes Monday, as a precaution, and met to discuss the incident. Police have no suspects, and believe the perpetrator(s) left campus immediately following the shooting. Bradford, a junior defensive lineman for the Memphis Tigers, transferred from Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama. Friends say he loved football, his family, and friends – and worked to promote diversity. Head Coach Tommy West said in a statement: “Our entire football team is deeply saddened by the loss of Taylor. He was well respected and a popular member of our team. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family.'
