    Air Native N7 from Nike

    September 26, 2007

    By: Erin Moore for Body1

In a provocative move, yesterday Nike unveiled a sneaker designed for Native Americans. The ‘Air Native N7’ is a shoe that will be offered exclusively to tribes and tribal schools across the country. The Oregon company conducted research on 224 people from 70 tribes, and found that Native people tended to have wider and taller feet than non-Natives. The Air Native N7 is about three times larger than the average Nike shoe and retails for about $42 per pair.

In addition to a customized size and look, the Air Native N7 and associated programs aim to promote healthy living. Native Americans – as well as African Americans, Asians, Latinos, and Pacific Islanders – have a higher risk of diabetes. And with the epidemic of obesity and pre-diabetes growing, it is essential to be active and eat a balanced diet.
