By: Erin Moore for Body1Beloved Carnegie Mellon University computer science professor Randy Pausch gave his last lecture Tuesday. Diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in September 2006, Pausch, 46, underwent surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation, which put the disease into remission. In August, 2007 he and his wife, Jai, found out that the cancer had returned. Doctors have given him three to five months of good health.
Pausch, who founded the innovative Entertainment Technology Center at CMU and is considered one of the pioneers of virtual technology, addressed his friends and colleagues Tuesday on the topic of making your dreams come true. He told a standing room-only crowd to pursue what you love and don’t let setbacks bring you down, for they provide a chance to prove how important something is to you. He ended his presentation by saying “this was for my [three young] kids.”
