By: Erin Moore for Body1A 900-pound man was removed from his Lansing, Michigan home Tuesday when a visiting nurse determined he needed medical attention. Rescuers cut a hole in the man’s second floor bedroom and lifted him out via forklift. The unnamed man suffers from a genetic disorder called Prader-Willi Syndrome, which is marked by an insatiable appetite and inability to feel full. Although rare – occurring in about one out of every 12 to 15,000 people – it is the number one genetic cause for obesity.
People with Prader-Willi Syndrome can learn to manage their condition by restricting diet and access to food. Some new medications are being developed as well. Click here to learn more.
