  • Tylenol Issues Recall for Arthritis Medication

    December 30, 2009

    By Joe Meloni for Body1

McNeil Consumer Healthcare has announced a voluntary recall of a limited number of Tylenol Arthritis Pain Caplet 100-count bottles, the company announced Wednesday morning.

The recall came after some consumers complained of an odd smell emanating from the bottle. Eventually, the company received complaints of nausea, stomach pains, and vomiting as side effects of the medication. According to a company spokesman, the side effects were “temporary and non-serious.”

The company has identified reason for the defect, and it is believed to be a widespread problem. A fungicide used on the pallets that the containers were stored upon, 2-4-6 tibromoanisole, infected the bottles containers causing the side effects.

While it is believed that the number of contaminated containers is small, the company has advised consumers to cease usage immediately and dispose of the bottles and pills. The company has issued a refund hotline number; consumers can call 1-888-222-6036 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Eastern Time on weekdays or 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekends to receive a refund.

Initially, the company announced a recall on a smaller scale before the side effects were reported.
