With all the technology available to today's scientists, it's amazing they still haven't found a cure for the cold. How far away can it be?

Hi Smvdee, I think it's because the common cold is not just one bug, but many different bugs that keep changing. Also, since it's relatively benign, there's more incentive in developing drugs for other ailments.

Is there a link between flu's and colds, or are flu's just stronger colds? and why can you get a cold in the summer as well as in the winter, but a flu only in winter? (just based on my personal experience.)

Colds and flus are different froma pathogen point of view. THere are many viruses that can cause the common cold most are rhinoviruses. Flus however are strictly caused by a family of viruses called influenza viruses. Froma symptomatic point of view there is alot of overlap which is why the over the counter cures (which treat symptoms- not necessarily causes) advertise as cold/flu medicine and cause confusion.

I don't know about the flu shot...but I really would like to see a definitive answer to curing a cold...every year it's the same: I get run down and suffer the beginning stages of a cold for a few weeks..then it gets really bad for a week or so...and then recovery takes forever...it really won't be until spring that I feel 100% again (and then the allergies kick in).
