  • ThinPrep ® pap(tm)

    Description

ThinPrep ® pap(tm) improves the accuracy of a Pap smear by removing blood and mucous from the slide before analyzing it for cancerous cells.

The procedure is similar to that of a standard pap smear—a doctor collects cervical cells using a swab, but instead of smearing them on a slide, sends the cells to a lab, where they are rinsed in a solution that removes contaminants from the sample. An automated processor collects a thin, even layer of cells and transfers them to a slide.
