    Sputum Cytology

    Description

    Tumors within the respiratory tract may slough cells into the sputum. If lung cancer is suspected, the patient will undergo sputum cytology. For this test, the patient spits phlegm into a specimen cup for analysis under a microscope. Usually, the best specimen is obtained in the morning.
