Has anyone been having a hard time with the heat? For once I say thank god for work - it's the only place I'm cool. I've even looked into an air conditioner but I can't bring myself to do that. Does anyone have any good strategies for beating the heat? If I come up with any, I'll be sure to share. Until then...

My hubby works in an air hanger - no air - so he just works at a pace that doesn't fatigue him - drinks water (the company has been bringing by ice cream / popsicles / freezes twice a day to help.
Shade - if you do have to be outside - sit in shade! Hopefully where there is a bit of a breeze.
I know for myself, putting a cool bandana soaked in cold water put it around your neck (you can get ones that have this gel in them that keeps cool for a few hours).
Also, someone told me they put their feet in cool water. I know I've done something similar but with running my wrists under cold water.
Good suggestion from gkelly - try to eat low fat foods - I can swear by that with the current diet I'm on.
Curious - is the high heat / humidity effecting your blood sugars much? I know for myself (am insulin dependent) - depending on what I'm dong - I use less insulin - almost to the point of taking 1/2 the amount when eating.

Petsit for a family member who has central air. (What? That's what I'm doing.)

In addition to gkelly's tips, make sure you drink lots of water. You can easily get dehydrated in the heat, and that can lead to headaches and fatigue. Ice cubes and frozen drinks are also great for cooling you down.
Finally, try not to spend too much time outside between 10am and 6pm, when the sun and heat are strongest - easy enough when you're at work all day =)

Not sure where you were living at the time this was posted, but the only answer is really:
Take lots of cool showers
Eat less foods that are high in fat. They tend to raise body temperature and also make you feel more sluggish, particularly in high heat.
Fans work fine. Try this: Set up a couple of fans in your room. Take a cool shower. Let the breeze from the fans cool you even more.
