So I got this really interesting link about a project in Chicago that is in Phase I trials, I think, transplanting islet cells into humans, and it's working. I'm in phone discussions now to see if I can participate. My girlfriend when she heard about my plans was immediately worried about the dangers of the procedure, but since she's relatively healthy I had to curb that impulse, with much gratitude that she's concerned for my well being, but a caution that she's never had to deal with this and thus does not even know if the assumed risks are worth it or not, for me personally, to be able to be insulin free and able to function normally...I had tears in my eyes trying to explain to her the misery that we all go through when trying to deal with this...I think she gets it. I'll keep you guys updated if things turn out well with this transplant thing :)
