Australia Loses Young News Anchor to Suicide

    November 05, 2007

    By: Erin Moore for Body1

The Australian media world is reeling today from a tragic turn of events. Twenty-nine-year-old news anchor Charmaine Dragun jumped to her death Friday in Sydney’s “The Gap,” a notorious suicide location in the city’s eastern suburbs. Described as “beautiful and bubbly,” Dragun was also considered intelligent and talented by her viewers and colleagues. She was someone who appeared to have it all: a long-term relationship, a loving family, career success, and her whole life ahead of her.

Suicide is a heartbreaking consequence of clinical depression, which is a common and treatable condition. If you or a loved one has had changes in eating and sleeping patterns and have felt sad and hopeless, call a doctor. Remember, you are not alone.
